Genetic disease sits at the crossing of biology, healthcare access, and belief. Gunatatwa was formed to work all three at once.
Gunatatwa Genetic Research Centre was formed to address a gap that shows up in three places at once: awareness of genetic disease and disorder, access to diagnostic approaches, and public counselling for the families living with both. Where those gaps are widest, we go directly to them.
We visit rural areas to understand the social and mythological beliefs that often surround hereditary illness — old stories about curses, ancestry, and fate — and help people connect those beliefs to what genetics can now actually explain. It is, as often as not, a two-way education: we bring diagnostic clarity, and we leave having learned how a community has made sense of illness for generations.
